“Blown Away” is an autobiographical memory, a portal back into my originating moment as an artist: a five-year-old lying on the kindergarten floor, painting The Three Little Pigs across a giant sheet of paper. I was completely absorbed, overtaken by the pure joy of making. I have few early memories, and this one is both an image and a feeling. That moment, the creative imprint, when I was amazed and blown away by the experience of creating, defines how and why I paint.
The narrative of The Three Little Pigs is reworked here in layers of time and narrative across the front and back of the canvases. What is seen and what is hidden unfolds at once, past and present, held in stages of sketch, underpainting, stain, and surface. The pigs, in different stages of creation, are like something half recalled and half being learned. The image does not settle into a single time: it shifts between what is remembered, what is painted, and what is taking shape now.
The wolf’s breath moves through the work not as illustration or threat but as an energetic force: carrying, erasing, revealing. It binds the child absorbed in making to the artist working now.
