Exposed reveals an artwork’s construction and process across multiple surfaces and states at once. Two stacked canvases read as one: the upper canvas is flipped to expose its reverse, while sections of the lower canvas are cut, pulled forward, and folded over the surface. Stretcher bars, raw canvas, and enlargement grids coexist with a fully painted Cardinal head, its young sketched in pencil, and the bird’s body, nest, and eggs appearing as paint seeping through the raw canvas. Different stages of making, normally concealed beneath a finished painting, remain visible simultaneously, making image, structure, and process inseparable.
