Multiverse Pear is a hybrid construction on a manually revolving turntable, built from a painted canvas, open stretcher frames, canvas cloth, and three-dimensional plastic pears. The frames rest modularly and irregularly, creating a fusion of multiple forms. Through polychromy, the pears merge object and painted image: one appears in realistic color while another remains in grays, entangled in similarly toned canvas. Some wooden frames are painted to resemble wood grain. On the upright canvas, a painted half pear appears before an image of a whole pear, creating a picture-within-a-picture echo. Turning the work reveals the raw reverse, where oil stains seep through from the unseen painted side. Painted canvas spirals around the construction, carrying color from the orange 3D pear onto the cloth below. As the work is rotated or viewed from different positions, shifting images, objects, and stages of making create a kind of still animation that comes to life through movement.
