Making art is rarely a straight line. It is built from accumulated moments, ideas, revisions, and concealed stages. In Space for Reflection, I approach the pomegranate not as a fixed subject, but as a structure through which these layers become visible. By holding them together, the work creates a space where looking slows down. Reflection is not only visual but structural. The still life becomes a site where multiple states coexist and where the act of viewing mirrors the layered process of making.
The artwork is constructed from stacked canvases, allowing the finished surface, preliminary sketch, and monochromatic underpainting to exist at the same time. A tear in the painting creates a window that exposes a black and white layer and the stretcher bars. A crumpled section reveals the early search for form. The visible backside and simulated seepage suggest a painting that continues on an unseen front. What is typically hidden becomes present. Image and construction remain inseparable.
