Selected Artworks (2017 - 2025)

This work brings together a figure based on Rembrandt’s A Woman Bathing in a Stream and Little Bo Peep from Toy Story to explore how female representation shifts across time and media. Bo Peep appears both as a stylized figure within the painting and as a found object—a mass-produced toy—blurring the line between image and object.
By folding time across eras, the piece stages an encounter between past and present, classical painting and commercial animation. It reflects on how cultural icons evolve, how bodies are depicted, and how meaning transforms through repetition, nostalgia, and the passage of time.

“Multiverse of a Homeland”
Three canvases, joined to reveal both front and back simultaneously, form a layered narrative. This artwork explores the multifaceted history of a place, weaving together actual and perceived experiences, memories, and imagined futures.
Snippets and layers of imagery carry individual emotional weight and stories. The painting portrays a homeland where time, history, and shared memories shape the landscape. These elements create a complex tapestry of details that both blend and contrast.
The interplay of two-dimensional and three-dimensional elements symbolizes the delicate balance between past and present, real and imagined, highlighting the enduring impact of our deepest connections and experiences.
Prickly pears and wagtail birds, harbingers of fall in the Middle East, are rendered in various forms and styles across the layers. Bullet cases and the barrel of a rifle appear intermittently, adding another layer of meaning to this multiverse of canvases, paint, sketches, and washes.

MULTIVERSE OF A HOMELAND

This work plays with the layers of childhood memory and cultural icons. The wooden nutcracker soldiers stand in contrast to the painted figures of a stormtrooper, Captain America, and a classic soldier, caught between the handmade and the mass-produced. The torn canvas reveals the frame and the raw wood behind, breaking the illusion of a finished surface.
The toys reflect shifting meanings over time—innocence, conflict, heroism—but also how these images circulate and evolve. The work holds the tension between nostalgia and the reality behind the symbols we use to understand the world.

Details

A Painting: “Mounting Frustration" is both a depiction of objects and a layered exploration of the liminal space between thought and tangible reality. Two joined canvases, presented simultaneously in front and back, create a narrative. This narrative explores the tangible manifestations of internal states and intangible emotions. Ordinary objects – a broken pencil, a game in progress, and remnants of attempts – are elevated beyond their mundane roles. They become symbols of thwarted intent, of the creative process interrupted or the frustration of repeated, unresolved attempts.
The unique construction of the canvas allows for a simultaneous viewing of both surface and structure, revealing the work's inherent duality. This duality is further emphasized as objects emerge from the painted plane, evolving from 2D depictions into their corporeal form, bridging the gap between illusion and reality.
"Mounting Frustration" is an attempt to externalize the internal, to give form to invisible tensions that arise from the relentless pursuit of resolution, and from the struggle to reconcile vision with reality. It is a visual manifestation of the moments where the line between aspiration and frustration blurs, and the objects of our daily lives become imbued with the weight of our emotions.

A Teddy bear is lying on the floor. Above it the canvas of the painting is draped and turns into a pink baby blanket that covers a blue/black corner of the canvas. In the middle of the top part is an actual 3D Teddy Bear that is painted over mostly in white. On the left side next to it and on the other corner there is a depiction of a fire and bellowing smoke in a rural area.
This painting, part of a series exploring the human experience amidst upheaval. The horizon hints at a subtle underlying turmoil. The torn/draped canvas serves as a symbolic rupture in the peaceful facade, suggesting an unseen catastrophe that disrupts the calmness.
